The North Side Elementary News Team sat down with Dr. Katie Jenner on Tuesday, May 17, to ask a few questions related to her visit to Union City and Randolph Eastern Schools.

Hello, everyone! I'm Haley... I'm here with Dr. Katie Jenner... she is the secretary of education for Indiana. First, can you tell us about your job as a secretary of education? Sure... so, we have 2,200 Schools across the state of Indiana that's a lot of schools and so my job is to do everything I can with a with a team of people to support our schools and to support our team and our principles and all of the people who work in school so that they can best support our students do you know how many students we have you want to guess give me a gas a lot a lot a lot a lot we do we have 1.12 million million students in the state of Indiana so a lot of support needs to be given to our schools and our and our educators what's the most rewarding part of your job the most rewarding part of my job is absolutely being right here in the schools and meeting you and hearing from you I talked to some Ambassador students today who told me that their favorite part about this School are the great teachers and that people are are kind and at the 7 Habits so disappearing and learning about the good work happening is absolutely my phone part of our school recently came to stem certified what does that mean for Northside to be stem certified so send them certification is a huge deal it's a major deal on fact I was just at his school right before this who applied to be stem certified and didn't quite make it and so you were one of 15 new school so we added to our lives the really really big deal in what man says that the at your school you make sure science technology engineering and Mathematics or are integrated into the daily lessons and and what you what you do throughout the day and why it matters is because it it's building your skill set for tomorrow as far as real leader I can already tell you're a leader mean the fact that you are leading this interview right now and I've asked you some tough questions I flipped the script on you and you handled it handled it well first number one is to always surround yourself with good people there will be people in in your life who maybe come in your path and they're not always kind try not to hang out with those people really surround yourself with people who bring out your best which means help you to to feel good about yourself and to also just be the best you encourage you so that's probably the number one bit of advice the other thing that I would mention and this is this is obvious and this is even part of when you think about the habits but the hard work I mean life is not about getting stuff handed to us you have to work hard and you have to really care it's important that you care about what you're doing like I love education it's my passion to help students and so what is your passion like I guess helping people okay so if helping people is your passion you could find a way to do that so that all the time you're not only contributing to others but you're you're you're which it which is a habit like you're feeling your own bucket your bed do do everything you can to to work hard find your passion and I can tell that you're doing right now thank you for joining us for this interview today you're welcome and you are the best student interviewer I have ever had right here so good you did a great job thank you for having me
