The National Farmers Union held the Congressional Fly-In Program from September 8-11.  Agriculturalists from across the country spoke with legislators on the issues facing the Ag Industry. The National Farmers Union invited Derick Williams of Union City High School to represent the State of Indiana and the Indiana FFA at the program. They invited him to address the Board of the National Farmers Union (comprised of all the presidents of each state's farmers unions along with Roger Johnson, the National President, and his staff).  Afterwards, Derick attended an Ag Briefing at the US Department of Agriculture and an Ag Briefing on Capital Hill with the Senate Ag Committee.  Derick concluded his trip to Washington, D.C. by meeting with our Indiana Congressmen, US Representative Greg Pence (6th District) and US Representative Trey Hollingsworth (9th District), and discussing the issues facing agriculture in Indiana.  In addition, Derick enjoyed further discussion with the Congressmen concerning the ongoing trade war, safe climate practices, ethanol blends, and farm safety nets.  What an exciting adventure and learning experience for Derick, Mr. Ron Smith (UCJSHS Ag teacher), and the Union City High School Agriculture program!
